Some students arriving at Northeast High School in Philadelphia thought school was for the birds on Monday morning.
School officials and police are investigating a break-in at the school that resulted in an unusual incident involving a flock of chickens.
School spokesman Fernando Gallard explains that janitors discovered the chickens just before dawn:
"At this point we don't know when someone broke into the school, but someone did break into at the start of school this morning and dropped off fifty or more chickens into Northeast High School and spread chicken feed all over the school."
Janitors had to clean and sanitize the school, so students were dismissed, with the exception of special ed students and staff who had to report to nearby Woodrow Wilson Middle School.
It will be a feather in the cap of the person who solves this break-in. As of 9am Monday, there were no arrests.
