Armed Dorm Intruder Confronts Swarthmore Undergrad

by KYW's Ian Bush

Swarthmore College is on alert after an armed man broke into a dorm room on Monday night and laid in wait for a female student.  It follows recent attacks on and around campus.

The undergrad wasn't physically hurt, but Swarthmore police chief Brian Craig (right) says she got quite the scare:

"When she entered her room, she saw the closet door move.  A male emerged from the closet, indicated her to be quiet by putting his finger up to his lips."

Police say the man also pulled a gun.  The student screamed and pushed him, and the intruder ran.

He's described a stocky black man in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5'9", and depicted in the sketch above.  Students said they saw him walking the Willets dorm halls earlier that night.

Police are still looking for him, especially in light of two other unsolved crimes -- both on April 14th.  Two people attacked a man at a CVS in the Delaware County borough, and 40 minutes later, a visiting Villanova student was threatened and robbed on Swarthmore's campus.
