Cable-Stringing Accident Kills Worker on Rt. 202 in Chesco

by KYW's Al Novack

A telephone worker was killed overnight on Route 202 in Chester County, and Route 202 through East Whiteland Township was closed much of the night as a result.

Pennsylvania state police say a Verizon employee, 53-year-old Tom Hetrick of Norristown, was repositiong phone cables across the highway at a construction area on Route 202 when a passing dump truck snagged one of the cables below the Swedeland Road overpass.

Hetrick was handling the cable when it got snagged by the truck, and he was thrown onto Route 202, suffering a massive head wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
