Car Owner in Delco Hit and Run Hires a Lawyer

by KYW’s David Madden

An Upper Darby man identified as a “person of interest” in the hit and run death of a Delaware County teenager last weekend has hired a lawyer, even though he has not been charged in the case.

Shortly after Sharon Hill police announced that they wanted to talk to 26-year-old Lemuel Payne, they heard, instead, from attorney Mark Much.

Much says he wants to meet with his new client before Payne meets with police and the Delaware County District Attorney.

"After I speak with him at length, I will contact them and let them know if we are willing to sit down with law enforcement and have a discussion," Much said.

Lemuel Payne is the registered owner of the Mercedes seized from the garage of his Upper Darby home on Wednesday night, three days after 16-year-old Faith Sinclair (pictured at right) was struck and killed while crossing Chester Pike.

Police say damage to the vehicle matches evidence taken from the scene.

Meanwhile, Sinclair’s family is planning for her funeral on Friday.
