Fans of the Philadelphia Arts hope to double the number of patrons to cultural events over the next 12 years.
The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance wants to increase the number of arts patrons from the current 18 million to 36 million by the year 2020. Thus the name of the initiative: Engage 2020.
Tom Kaiden is the chief operating officer of the Alliance.
"There's obviously always a core role for the opera and the orchestra and traditional forms of arts and culture to play, but this program will essentially allow us to leverage from that point forward to understand all the forms of cultural expression that future generations will embrace."
He says the next generation is fully involved in YouTube, MySpace and other computer programs that are extending the definition of culture. He says this program will help to change that definition to include all forms of arts and culture. |
