Cycling Advocates Use Septa Strike to Tout Two-Wheeling

by KYW's Mike Dunn

Local bicycling advocates are seizing the Septa strike as a chance to boost their favorite way of getting around.  And they're offering free bicycle protection at City Hall.

The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia has set up bike racks on the northwest corner of City Hall:

"We are encouraging people who have been stranded commuters from the Septa strike to try two wheels."

Alex Doty says coalition members will guard the bikes all day long:

"People can come and lock up their bikes, and then we have folks out here from 8am to 6pm.  So it's another extra level of security that you don't get in another part of the city, where you're parking your bike."

Doty says during the last Septa strike, bicycling around town jumped 40 percent, and he believes the same could happen this time.
