DVD of Radical Islam Sent With Pa. Papers Causes Unrest

by KYW's Pat Loeb

Newspaper subscribers in the Philadelphia area received something extra in their Sunday paper: a DVD about radical Islam that is drawing criticism from Muslims.

Pennsylvania was one of the swing states targeted by a controversial filmmaker.

Clarion Fund placed the DVD in an ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Bucks County Courier Times, along with dozens of other papers in six swing states. Spokesman Gregory Ross says the group's intent is strictly to educate Americans about terrorism:

"We are not against Muslims. We are only against that 10 to 15 percent that are radical."

However, Justin Peyton of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, says his members have denounced the DVD as incendiary propaganda:

"It just takes advantage of the fact that a lot of people are not familiar with Islam and Muslims. The portrayal is a highly distorted portrayal of Islam."

The DVD called “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West,” shows children promising to become martyrs and crowds shouting "death to America."
