Del. Valley Murder-Rape Suspect Nabbed in New York City

by KYW's Al Novack and John McDevitt

Police in Bensalem, Pa. say the man who turned up in a New York City jail is the man they've been hunting in connection with a violent crime wave last weekend in and around Philadelphia.

New York City police say the fingerprints of a man they have in custody are a positive match with fingerprints found at crime scenes in Philadelphia, Bucks County, and Lawrenceville, NJ.  Omar Sharif Cash, 26, of Philadelphia, was charged in New York with driving drunk in a stolen vehicle.

A 32-year-old man and his date were carjacked last weekend in Philadelphia. The man was subsequently murdered in Bensalem and his date raped, kidnapped, and repeatedly assaulted at a motel in Lawrenceville. The motel's surveillance video system captured an image of the suspect (above), whom authorities believe is Cash.

Bensalem public safety director Fred Harran says Cash will now be extradited back to Bensalem.  Cash is also wanted by Philadelphia authorities in connection with an April 21st murder at a car wash in Frankford.
