A clinical psychologist is facing charges in Delaware County, Pa., accused of fondling a 10-year-old girl during three therapy sessions last month.
According to a police affidavit, 59-year-old doctor Jerry Lazaroff had been counseling a family going through a divorce and was conducting private one-on-one sessions at the time the alleged assaults occurred.
Investigators say the victim’s mother noticed that her daughter was disheveled after her meetings, and the girl later claimed that Lazaroff touched her in inappropriate places.
The affidavit states that Lazaroff told Upper Providence police any such touching was inadvertent as he was engaged in what he called “play therapy,” which includes getting on the floor with the child. He referred to the girl as a “work in progress.”
Lazaroff faces three counts of indecent assault, plus charges of morals corruption and child endangerment. He is free on bail pending a preliminary hearing.
