Delco Woman Charged in Deadly Wrong-Way Crash

A 22-year-old Delaware County woman faces homicide by vehicle charges, accused of causing a deadly alcohol-induced crash while driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the Blue Route in Montgomery County last month.
Patricia Waggoner (right) was on her way to Media from her home in Massachusetts to see her grandchildren. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time when her car was hit by an SUV being driven by Roisin O’Neill (above) of Newtown Square, who prosecutors say had just wrapped up a night of drinking at an Ardmore bar.
District attorney Risa Ferman says O’Neill had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit:
“What should have happened that night is she should have followed the plan that she had with her friends -- she should have followed the instructions of the people at the bar. She should never have gotten behind the wheel of the car, and her decision that night has tragic consequences for so many people.”
Prosecutors say O’Neill got on I-476 in West Conshohocken and drove the wrong way for three miles -- avoiding other drivers who frantically called 911, before slamming into the woman’s car. |
