Faith in Philadelphia: A Legacy of Teaching Chastity

by KYW's Nancy Griffin

A movement of young people in college and in high school is spreading a chastity message throughout Philadelphia schools and to Philadelphia school kids. The progam is in its 20th year.

Judi McLane says Generation Life used an interactive, MTV style approach to share a message of chastity with thousands of young students over this past week:

"This is a our 20th year with 8th grade chastity days in the Philadelphia area and we speak to about 3,000 students at this particular event. But all through the year we speak to about 30,000 young people in 7th and 8th grade and in the area high schools."

25-year-old Matt Chominski is practicing what he preaches:

"From the very beginning of the bible we're just bringing the message about God created everything and everything is good and chastity is not about shaming people, guilting people into saving sex for marriage but that's the best way for you as 8th graders to live out your sexuality."
