Festival to Highlight Plays By Small Theaters in Philadelphia

by KYW's Karin Phillips

Philadelphia's Spark Festival is giving Philadelphia theatergoers a chance to see work by small and innovative theater companies.

From Wednesday through Sunday, theatergoers can see works from innovative small theater companies in Philadelphia.

Karen DiLossi, director of programs and services for the Theatre Alliance of Philadelphia, says the Spark Festival assist the theater companies with development, management, and fundraising so they can concentrate on their often avant grade works:

"Two high powered lawyers, who want to get married, but can only really do it on their lunch break; a group of baseball players, who are on a losing streak, and decide they're just going to play for the fun of it; a mime who's just had too much. He's gone off the edge so he's talking back."
