Former Montco Official Charged with Thefts from County Organizations

by KYW's Brad Segall

The former head of the police and fire training academy in Montgomery County, Pa. is charged with stealing nearly $170,000 -- money that was set aside for public safety.

Over an eight-year period, prosecutors say, Robert Linsinbigler was writing checks to himself from two accounts -- one from the Chiefs of Police Association, the other the Fire Advisory Board.

The 54-year-old East Norriton man spent 32 years with the county before being fired earlier this year when the alleged thefts came to light (see related story).

Risa Ferman is the Montgomery County DA:

"When you think about trusted employees, this man would have qualified as one of the most trusted employees of the County of Montgomery.  People thought he had earned just the highest level of trust.”

But, she says, he had total control over those accounts and the county should have had tighter oversight.
Ferman says Linsinbigler used the money to pay his mortgage, a home equity loan, and other personal expenses.
