Republican state lawmakers are asking the attorney general to review a published report alleging that Pennsylvania gaming regulators directed investigators to change a background report on a Poconos casino owner now charged with perjury (see previous story).
Louis DeNaples (right in file photo) is accused of lying about the extent of alleged mob ties during the process in which he landed a casino license. Now the Allentown Call reports that Gaming Control Board officials directed investigators to change their background report on DeNaples, and gave him the chance to challenge its findings before he got a license.
Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery County) is a former police officer:
“Did upper level management get themselves involved and alter the report? In law enforcement, in ten years, I never had anyone come to me and ask me to change an investigative report, it just does not happen.”
Vereb says he and several other House GOP members want to make sure the attorney general is aware of the published report and make sure there’s been no violation of state gaming law.
A spokesman for the AG says the office cannot comment on any criminal investigation it may be conducting.
