Garden Report
Gladiolus

by KYW's Fran Sorin

If you want to experiment with some different types of bulbs for your garden this season, a specimen that will offer not only zesty color, texture and height but that can also be used as a cutting flower, I strongly recommend gladiolus.

Gladiolus are simple to grow, only needing a lot of sun, well-drained soil and frequently some staking to keep them upright. Secondly, they are very moderately priced, even if you treat them as annuals.  And finally, these gems of the garden come in a huge variety of colors - white with purple fringes, magenta, deep violet, lots of  reds, yellows and a swathe of bi-colored blossoms that are too numerous to mention. When planted in groupings throughout a border they add a luxurious feel to the garden that will have visitors taking notice.
