Gone With The Wind?

by KYW's Ed Abrams

Another breezy spring day means more well-struck golf shots that get eaten alive by the wind.

Story of your life? Spring-Ford head professional Rich Steinmetz says that shot takes more brains than brawn:

"Take two or three more clubs, and take a nice smooth half or three-quarter swing with not a lot of hands, and just keep the ball down. Because the harder you swing into the wind, the higher it's going to go and the more spin you'll put on it."

Are people surprised at how easy it is to do?

"It's tough at first, because a lot of people are used to swinging 100 percent every time.  But it's also a good drill to learn how to control your body speed, which a lot of people struggle with, especially if they slice the ball.  They come across the ball and their body gets way out of synch with their arms.  So it's a good drill in that respect -- even for not playing in the wind."

Sound advice, from a real player. Steinmetz was the 2006 Philadelphia PGA player of the year and competed in the 2005 PGA Championship at Baltusrol.

I'll see you on TV with more Golfshots, presented by Buick, Monday nights at 7:30pm on Comcast Sportsnet.
