A horse named "Princess" got hit by a car after she got loose in Germantown. The horse is in the care of the Pennsylvania SPCA. She's listed in stable condition but authorities say she may have to be put to sleep because of the severity of her injuries, with include a deep laceration on her shoulder and an injury to her lower rear leg.
Princess broke free from her owner outside of her stable behind a house on the 200 block of Hasberry Street in Germantown. As she ran through the city streets, she was hit by a car, before she was finally brought under control a mile-and-half away on Lincoln Avenue.
Pennsylvania SPCA Humane Officer Wayne Smith says it's unlikely the owner of the horse will face charges:
"It was clearly an accident. He said he was bringing the horse out; a dog jumped out the horse took off running hit by a car. That's what happens when you have large animals in the city, though."
Smith says it is legal to have horses in the city as long as they have proper accommodations and care.
A woman in the car that hit the horse was treated for minor injuries at Einstein Medical Center. |
