House Fire in Chester Kills Three

by KYW's Mike DeNardo

A woman, her boyfriend and her three year-old daughter were killed in a fire that ripped through a house at 3rd and Palmer Streets in Chester, Pa.

It happened around 11pm Sunday night.

A man dropped off his girlfriend and her daughter at the house and was driving away with a friend when he got a call on his cell phone from the girlfriend who said the house was on fire and she was trying to get her daughter out.

Fire battalion chief Charles Bolgunas of the Chester Fire Department:

"When we arrived, the friend said the boyfriend ran into the house and tried to make a rescue. The friend stood outside and dialed 911. After the boyfriend went in, it was the last he saw of him. Unfortunately, we did find the boyfriend and girlfriend together at the bottom of the staircase."

The three year-old was found in an upstairs bedroom. She was taken to Crozier Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Names of the victims were not immediately released, but the man was 29 years old and the woman was 23.

Arson investigators were on site, but Bolgunas says there was no evidence of anything suspicious.

There were no working smoke detectors inside the house.
