In NJ, Fuel Prices Vary Widely Amid Global Instability

by KYW's John Ostapkovich

New Jersey is known in this region for cheap gasoline, but that's not true in some spots today, where the price at the pump has shot up.

AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Tracy Noble blames the Israeli military action in Gaza for riling world oil markets.  But the ripples hit the pump price irregularly.

A check of the KYW Ga$ Watch is finding prices from $1.37 a gallon at a station in Woodbury, NJ to $1.89 in Voorhees.

Noble says New Jersey gas station owners are allowed to raise prices once a day:

"What consumers need to remember also is that we're paying for what's already in their tanks.  What they're purchasing today is not going to be delivered today, so they're inflating their prices based on future deliveries."

AAA also has a web-based gas price finder by zip code, but Noble says to keep your eyes open for bargains while you're driving.

The average price of regular gas in New Jersey has risen two cents over just 24 hours, to a little more than $1.51 per gallon.
