''Welcome America'' festivities are underway across Philadelphia, with the biggest events happening this weekend.
City representative Melanie Johnson says even though special events have been going on all week (see previous story), she's most excited for what they have planned this weekend:
"Friday, July 4th, we have a large number of events happening. That's the biggest day."
Johnson says it starts with an Independence Day ceremony in which the Declaration of Independence is read:
"Then there's the 'Super Scooper' all-you-can-eat ice cream festival at Penn's Landing. Then there's 'Happy Birthday America' -- it's at Independence Visitors Center, then 'Let Freedom Ring' at the Liberty Bell Center, where they have a symbolic ringing of the Liberty Bell."
And it all culminates with the party on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway featuring a parade and concert headlined by singer John Legend, and fireworks.
The next day, Saturday, there's more fun and food on Penn's Landing followed by another show and fireworks.
You can find more information about all this weekend's special events at www.americasbirthday.com.
