In South Jersey, a Wawa Worker Proves It's Not About Age

by KYW's Karin Phillips

There was a big celebration at a South Jersey convenience store on Thursday, where a beloved employee is has just turned 90 years old.

Harriet Pearson began working her local Wawa, on Church Road in Cinnaminson, when she was a sprightly 78. And now, at age 90, she has no plans to stop.

Five days a week, Harriet prepares the morning breakfast sandwiches, stuffs pretzels, and restocks sandwiches.   And she's become known for her famous hugs.

"Oh, I love hugs.  Hugs are great.  They don't cost a penny and they make you feel so good."

Christine is a fellow employee:

"I love her to death -- she's awesome.  Every day you come in, you get a hug.  Every day you leave, you get a hug."

John Brenner is one of Harriet's customers and stopped by to wish her well:

"She's always smiling and she always happy, and she is probably one of nicest people I have ever met in my life."
