Israeli Officials Weary of Hezbollah Guerrillas in Beirut

by KYW's Jay Bushinsky

The seizure of Beirut's Muslim sector by Iranian-backed Hezbollah guerrillas in what was described by Lebanese and Christian leaders as a bid to take over the country is causing serious concern in Israel.

One prominent analyst of Middle Eastern affairs here said the deteriorating situation in Lebanon could put a heavily-armed client of Iran on Israel's northern border.

Hezbollah is believed to have at least 40,000 surface to surface missiles supplied by Iran and has zeroed in on Israeli cities and towns.
