Despite the objections of his defense minister, Ehud Barak, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (photo) decided to have a special panel look into the conduct of Israeli troops during last winter's onslaught into the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu acted after he reportedly was told by Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon that a probe is the only way keep the UN Security Council from debating alleged crimes against humanity.
The panel will check the war crimes charges submitted to the UN's human rights council.
Barak evidently will not allow any officers or men to be interrogated.
