The Philadelphia Health Department has confirmed a case of rabies in a stray kitten adopted a while ago by a resident in the Parkwood section of the city.
Health Department Doctor Michael Nguyen says the kitten came to the attention of the department a short time ago.
"The kitten was originally notified to us by the SPCA, who reported that there was an ill appearing animal who they were caring for. Because of their concerns, they referred the animal to us for rabies testing."
The kitten was put down, and tested for rabies. And the test came back positive. Win believes everyone who had come in contact with the kitten has been notified to contact their doctor for rabies treatment. He says residents should be wary of any animal, wild or domestic, which they are not familiar with. Especially if it scratches or bites them.
