Labor Rally in Atlantic City to Support Members of UAW

by KYW's David Madden

An organized labor rally is scheduled for noon on Saturday in Atlantic City in support of  members of the UAW at four casino hotels (see related story).

3,500 hundred dealers, slot techs and others at Caesar’s, Bally’s (in photo above), the Tropicana and Trump Plaza voted to join the United Auto Workers last year. They’re still trying to hammer out their first contract.

A new contract has proved to be no easy task, according to the union’s national secretary-treasurer, Elizabeth Bunn:

"Two of the casino properties are technically at the bargaining table, but stalling there. Two are continuing to fight us through legal shenanigans."

New Jersey governor Jon Corzine tops the list of elected officials scheduled to appear at the rally with thousands of union people being bussed in from as far away as Indiana.

Harrah's, which owns Caesar's and Bally's, says it will continue to bargain in what they say is "good faith."
