With the death toll from the China earthquake headed into the tens of thousands and 10 million people affected in some way (see related story), businesspeople and others in the Chinese community in Philadelphia are coordnating donations and help for those suffering in the aftermath of Monday's disaster.
Representatives from at least 25 Chinese-American organizations in the Delaware Valley have been meeting this week to coordinate relief efforts for those injured and left homeless by the quake.
A spokesman for the Fujianese Association of Greater Philadelphia says organizers will use the occasson of the celebration of Asian Heritage Month to bring attention to the crisis.
On Saturday, a table will be set up at the Friendship Arch in Chinatown, at 10th and Arch Streets, so passersby can donate. A donation table will also be set up in Franklin Square on Saturday between 1pm and 5pm.
Meetings will continue to be held next week to further coordinate relief efforts. |
