Local Expert Supports Comcast Plan to Buy Stake of NBC
|
by KYW's Lynne Adkins
As the Comcast plan to buy a huge stake of NBC Universal moves forward, at least one local expert says it could be good for the viewers.
Don Heller, assistant dean of Temple University's School of Communcations and Theater, used to run the Prism Network and knows the Comcast owners well. He says this deal will save them money on programming, savings they can pass along to subscribers:
"They are going to be able to manage costs, they're good managers. By having options they don't have to be held hostage by someone who has a piece of content."
He doesn't see this as a fatal blow to network television. He says with all the channels for viewing now, the audience is smaller for each outlet, but the networks still claim the largest piece of the viewing pie.
