Local Group Honors Seniors and Their Independence

by KYW's Karin Phillips

A senior services organization in Germantown is holding a free cookout for seniors over 60 in order to celebrate their own independence.

Seniors over 60 in Philadelphia are being offered a chance to have a second Independence Day, on Thursday, July 3rd at the NewCourtland Education Center at 6950 Germantown Avenue.

Angela Brown, public relations director of the NewCourtland Elder Services, says it's all part of an ongoing community education outreach to give Philadelphia seniors information and resources to live longer, stronger, and more independently:

"We're going to have a variety of entertainment for seniors, by seniors. We have upwards of 20 resource tables from supportive services that are available both from the state and the city level."

You have to register for the event by calling 215-965-1915
