Local Prof. Raises Funds For Myanmar Cyclone Victims

by KYW's John McDevitt

A University of Pennsylvania professor is leading an effort to raise money for Myanmar cyclone victims.

Dr. Jennifer Chu is a former citizen of Myanmar and the president of AMIMA, the Alumni Myanmar Institutes of Medicine Association. Chu is also a physician and professor at the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania:

"We are asking for donations and we intend to get the donations over to the Yangon General Hospital.  And because we are natives and physicians, we know exactly how to get the aid to the people who need it the most."

The effort is to help counter the anticipated spread of infectious diseases, including cholera and typhoid.

If you would like to make a donation, visit amima.net and click on Myanmar Cyclone Relief Fund.
