Wednesday's Child

Luis

by KYW's Larry Kane
Produced by Jim Melwert

Luis is 14 years old, and he describes himself as a passionate person:

"I'm a happy person, I'm a funny person, I'm a sensitive person, meaning that if you say anything to hurt me I will cry."

Luis hopes to be a surgeon when he grows up. For now, he says, he enjoys playing basketball and hanging out with his friends:

"A good friend to me is somebody that I can I tell my secrets, that I can tell my problems to, and somebody that I can trust that won't go around telling other people my business."

Luis' Puerto Rican heritage means a lot to him, and he says he wants a family that is bilingual. And he says he has a lot to offer that family:

"I will give them love, I will give them thank-yous, and I will help them a lot. If they need help doing something that they can't do, then I will go help them. If somebody's sick I will do something to help them around the house or something they need to do."

And family recruiter Tamara Reddick says it's important to find Luis a permanent home because she would hate to see him lose his caring side. But she says that can happen to boys in foster care:

"Because they're not getting back what they're giving. And so they kind of become bitter they don't feel as loved as they feel they should be."
