Eleven-year-old Mikal says musical legend John Lennon is one of his favorite people:
“He was all about peace. He was the peace warrior, as I say. Peace guy. I like peace, too."
Mikal and I chatted about John Lennon and the Beatles for quite some time. He says “Nowhere Man” and “In My Life” are his favorite Beatles songs.
Mikal also likes to read about history, and he talked about an upcoming holiday:
"Yeah, Martin Luther King. He won a Nobel Peace Prize. He wanted to just keep blacks and whites friends.”
Mikal feels the same way, and wants to be part of a family that shares his love:
“I like to be around non-fighting people. People that care for people, all kinds of people.”
And when he becomes part of a permanent family, he says, he'll have a lot to offer:
“I can give back my respect, my love, my show of peace, gentleness, kindness, manners.”
Gloria Hochman, with the National Adoption Center, witnessed this young man's good manners firsthand:
"He took my arm to go down the stairs to get a pizza, and he pushed the elevator button and he held the door open when we had to come in and out of the building. He’s just a very, very kind and special young man."
She hopes Mikal can find a permanent home as soon as possible:
“We don’t want him to wait until he’s 14 or 15 to find a family. We want him to be adopted right now. And I know that any family that would adopt him would be getting a most special child.”
