Montco Cops Hunt Fast-Food Plumbing Thief

by KYW's Brad Segall

Police in Montgomery County, Pa. are on the hunt for a man who’s been stealing plumbing from the men’s bathrooms at fast-food restaurants along the Route 202 corridor.

The targeted businesses have been two McDonald’s restaurants in East Norriton, a McDonald’s in Upper Gwynedd that has been hit twice, and Burger King restaurants in Whitpain and Montgomery Township. At one site his image may have been caught on surveillance video (above and right).

East Norriton detective Jean Morrison says the suspect takes about four minutes to shut off the water, then pull the pipes out of the toilets and urinals:

"The piping is chrome-plated, but underneath the chrome is brass. And according to the plumbing people I spoke to, the brass is bringing as much if not more than copper at the scrap metal yards.”

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid to late 20s. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, work boots, and carrying a blue backpack which police believe holds the tools he uses.

Detective Morrison says that restaurants should be aware of their customers and report any suspicious activity.
