A recent Ellison research study found more Americans think the quality of education home schooled students receive is better in some cases then a public school education.
Peter Bergson is not at all surprised by the study. He's the executive director of Open Connections in Newtown Square, a non-profit that provides support to parents who choose to home school, a step Peter and his wife decided to take years ago for their four children.
He says even for the youngest of children learning is instinctive:
"They were interested in everything and they didn't need us to start telling them on what to learn and when and how to learn it...we offered them ideas and answered questions and gradually opened up the world of resources to them.”
His youngest child is graduating in just a few weeks from Columbia with an Engineering degree. Diane Webber is from Upper Dublin and she left her teaching job to homes school her three children:
"This has allowed us to travel together and to really get to know them intimately and for them to get to know us and it has really established these wonderful strong relationships."
