NJ 'Best Beach' News Released Sooner Than Expected

by KYW's Mike DeNardo

The announcement isn't scheduled until Thursday, but some Jersey shore towns couldn't contain the news that they had been named one of New Jersey’s top ten beaches.

The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium wanted to be the ones to release their Top Ten Beaches Poll this week but they didn't make that clear when they notified the winners.  Four of those shore towns -- Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, North Wildwood and Beach Haven, immediately put out press releases.

John Siciliano heads the Wildwood Tourism Authority. He's not apologizing:

"We get an extra day or two of publicity right before the start of the summer season, which is Memorial Day this weekend. I think this consortium learned that if you don't want something out there, don't put it out there because people get excited about being named as one of the top ten beaches in the state."

Which beach is number one? That announcement is still set for Thursday, provided no one leaks it before then.
