New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine has issued an executive order that changes operations at Ancora State Psychiatric Hospital in Camden County where patient care and security have come under scrutiny in recent months.
Two patients escaped from the secure facility. Two others died under questionable circumstances. Governor Corzine says he’s made three visits to Ancora in the last 15 months, and things are getting better. There’s a new acting CEO who has broadened outreach with neighbors, heightened on-grounds security and lowered the patient population.:
“We’re not claiming victory. We’re saying we’re on a pathway that I think will lead to better outcomes and a greater sense of certainty.”
The order adds a new two tract treatment plan for acute and extended care with greater emphasis on community placement where appropriate. Staffers will also receive more training before going to work in a unit. |
