The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is ending evening hours at all of its 44 agencies, beginning the week of June 22nd, to save money.
Ending the evening hours is expected to save $4 million the first year.
Each of the MVC offices had been assigned one night a week to stay open until 7:30pm -- that's what's ending. The new hours will be Monday through Friday, 8am - 4:30pm, and Saturdays 8am until 12 noon.
Cathleen Lewis, a spokeswoman for the NJ MVC, says it was a choice between cutting the evening hours or the Saturday hours, and the Saturday hours are more popular.
The MVC issues such items as driver's licenses, auto registrations, and titles.
