New Jersey Transit officials say a commuter was being treated at the Cooper Hospital trauma center after being struck on Friday afternoon by a light rail train Riverline train in Burlington, NJ.
Police say the victim got off the train with his bicycle at the High Street station shortly after noon.
According to police, two witnesses saw him get on his bike and try to beat the train to the crossing about a half block away.
Transit officials say the operator of the train sounded the horn and put on the emergency brakes when the cyclist turned in front of the train, but was unable to stop.
The victim was flown by helicopter to the trauma center. There was no immediate word on his condition.
Train service was suspended for several hours around High Street. Buses were substituted between the Florence and Burlington South stations.
