This Veterans' Day provided the backdrop as a Bucks County organization dedicated to helping veterans and military families unveiled a new web site designed to connect them with resources in the community.
The web site has been a year in the making, the brainchild of Janet Manion of Doylestown (near right), whose son Travis was killed in Iraq more than two years ago.
The Travis Manion Foundation partnered with Bucks County, and the result is militarycommunitynetwork.org, a place where veterans and their families can go to get information and help.
The foundation’s Ryan Manion Borek (far right) says it’s designed to provide one-stop shopping:
"We found that there was a gap: there was a ton of people with resources available to help our veterans and military families, but they didn’t know where to go.”
Those services include education, survivor support, employment, health, and even discounts offered by local businesses.
She says they’re hoping their web site becomes a model. In fact, she says, they’ve already received calls from other communities across the country.
