Democratic mayoral candidate Michael Nutter (file photo above) wants to boost the number of inspectors peaking into the kitchens of Philadelphia restaurants. 

Michael Nutter unveiled a sweeping health care proposal that includes, among other things, a call for more frequent inspections of restaurants, diners and food carts in the city. 

Currently, the Health Department has about 30 inspectors looking at hundreds of eateries, and most are looked once every 13 months. Nutter wants more inspections:

"We should be able to inspect every restaurant in the city, at a minimum, within a 12-month period of time. And so some very smart person, like a Health Commissioner, would figure out: if we want inspections on a 9-or no more than 12-month period time, that's how many inspectors we're going to have."

Nutter says that by contrast, Los Angeles restaurants are inspected two to four times a year.
