A state House committee has scheduled a hearing later this week on a bill that would allow Pennsylvania casinos to add table games.
Proposals to allow for tables games were offered before the ink was dry on the bill that legalized slot machines back in 2004.
So far, table games have been on the back burner but the scheduled hearing by the state House Gaming Oversight Committee might be an indication they’re being positioned to move forward. But even if a table games bill advances in the House, its likely to hit a roadblock in the Senate.
Stephen MacNett is general counsel to Senate Republican leaders:
“We are still, in many ways, early in the process of implementing slots in Pennsylvania. There are issues to be settled, there are still licenses to be issued in that regard, and certainly facilities to be built.”
MacNett says he believes in the Senate, members will want to have a better sense of the experience with slot machines before authorizing new forms of gaming in Pennsylvania.
