In an effort to boost the chances for big jackpots, more changes will be coming to the Powerball game next year.
One big change to the Powerball game will be the addition of a big state – Florida – in January. At the same time, some changes will be made to push the jackpot levels higher. Cris Stambaugh is a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Lottery:
“To increase the average jackpot, four white balls have been added, but three red balls – those would be the “powerballs” – have been removed. And that’s a net change of one ball”
The changes, which, again, take effect in January, will also see the starting Powerball jackpot go to $20 million, up from $15 million.
The Match 5 prize with the Power Play option will have a guaranteed multiplier of five, making the second prize $1 million. And the average jackpot is expected to increase by about $45 million, to $141 million.
