Pennsylvania Pinpoints Homeowners' Property Tax Relief Amounts

by KYW's Tony Romeo

Pennsylvania homeowners can now get a better idea of how much tax relief they can expect from casino revenues in the coming fiscal year.

In April, the state budget secretary said the average household property tax bill would drop by $169. But the individual number is based on a formula that gives more relief to school districts where property taxes are higher and income and property values are lower.

The state Education Department has released estimates for most of the state’s school districts. In the Philadelphia region, tax relief ranges from a high of $623 in the Chester-Upland District to as low as $62 in Bryn Athyn and $75 in Upper Merion.

Philadelphia gets wage tax relief from slots revenues. The non-resident rate will go down by about 5%, while the rate for residents will go down 5.7%.
