Paris Polyphylla

by KYW's Fran Sorin

As any keen gardener knows, it is important to treat yourself to at least a few ‘luxury’ plants each season.

Paris polyphylla is a perennial that was originally collected in the Himalayas. It is closely related to the trillium and is a rare and magical flower that stuns all who lay eyes on it. In the summer, it bears solitary, spider-like flowers, made of wide green sepals and thin, almost thread like golden petals that are perched on top of beautiful whorls of narrow leaves.

In late summer, outstanding heads of scarlet-orange fruit come into bloom. Paris polyphylla thrives in moist, partial or full shade.  It can grow as tall as 3 feet and is hardy in USDA Zones 5-8. Plants will multiply when left undisturbed.
