Part 3: Fabulous Treasures from Our Sister City

by KYW's Karin Phillips
reporting from Florence, Italy

Florence (above) and Philadelphia are sister cities, sharing a love of Italian food and heritage such as is seen here in our Italian-American community and the open-air Italian Market of South Philadelphia.

Now, the two cities are about to share something else: a major exhibit on Galileo and the Age of Astronomy.

The Franklin Institute will be the only venue worldwide.  Dennis Wint (right) is president and CEO of The Franklin:

"What's so extraordinary is to see the original Galileo material, 400 years later, that in effect changed Western thought about the relation of man to his environment and to his world.

"And we will have these original objects here in Philadelphia and be the only place in the world other than Florence to be able to tell that extraordinary story."

The exhibit, "Galileo, The Medici, and the Age of Astronomy" will be at the Franklin Institute from April to September.
