Philadelphia City Council is considering a bill that would require all employers in the city to offer paid sick leave to workers.
City Councilman Darrell Clarke says 4 out of ten workers in Philadelphia don't get paid sick leave at their jobs. He says most of those workers are in lower paying jobs like restaurants:
"Numerous times I've gone into a restaurant, particularly a fast food restaurant, and an individual is coughing or wheezing over the food that they're serving me. I would prefer that that person stay home and get well."
So Clarke is pushing a measure that would require larger businesses in the city to offer up to 9 days of paid sick leave and smaller business would have to offer up to 5 days.
Separately, Council will consider a bill requiring businesses to offer unpaid sick leave for victims of domestic abuse. |
