Over 100,000 people lined up along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia to cheer on approximately 45,000 walkers, racers, and 6,000 cancer survivors who participated in the 18th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Among the survivors was Annette Mayzanski. She says she got involved about two years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer:

“Last year, I had just gotten out of the hospital after my third surgery and I made it here.  This year I brought a whole group of people.”

Among the group were 17 friends and co-workers.  She calls them ‘Annette’s Angels’. 

Like many others involved in the race for the cure, they have dedicated themselves to spreading awareness and helping others.

This year’s Race for the Cure had a regional goal to raise $4.5 million. 75% of the money raised will stay in the Delaware Valley region.
