Philadelphia's Children's Hospital Awarded for End of Life Care

by KYW's Lynne Adkins

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has received another national honor, this one for its end of life care for dying children.

The Circle of Life Award honors programs dedicated to handling end of life issues and patients who are near death. Dr. Tammy Kang, medical director of the pediatric advance care team at Children's Hospital, says her program stresses education and quality of life:

"For a long time the medical field has avoided addressing the issues these kid have  because it is hard to think of children who die at a young age, for our team we really find it so rewarding to help these families and these kids maximize their quality of life."

She admits it can be sad taking care of dying children, but is quick to add it's also rewarding and inspiring.
