With fuel prices increasing, those who work to promote Philadelphia tourism are launching a multimillion-dollar campaign to promote the City of Brotherly Love as an affordable place to visit.
Officials with the Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation say tourism in Philadelphia is generating more than $28 million a day, more than $10 billion a year, despite fluctuations in the economy.
Beginning June 1st, a $2 million campaign will be launched to attract visitors who are looking for history, fun, and affordability. Meryl Levitz (in photo above) is president and CEO:
"It's within a five-hour drive of a quarter of the country's population. Eighty-some percent of the people who come to Philadelphia in the summer come by car anyway."
About a third of Philadelphia's nine million visitors annually come in the summertime.
