Philadelphia Throwing an Olympic Party in Chinatown

by KYW's Hadas Kuznits

Philadelphia is throwing a party in Chinatown this Friday to celebrate the start this year's Olympic games.

Two blocks on 10th street near the Chinatown arch at 10th and Race Streets will be blocked off on Friday to celebrate the start of the Olympics in Beijing:

"It was so obvious to do this in Chinatown and the Chinatown community has been great.  They've really embraced us and it's a great way for them to promote the Chinese culture as well as their homeland hosting the biggest sporting event in the world, the Olympic games."

That's Jessica Meyers with the Philadelphia Sports Congress. She says there will be games and food from 5:30pm until 11:00 at night:

"We kind of look at it in two major buckets, one of which is a focus on Chinese culture and tradition -- and one of which is a focus on Olympic sports."

She says Friday's Chinatown party is the last bit of Olympic activity in Philadelphia. Earlier the city hosted two Olympic trials -- table tennis and gymnastics -- and a US versus Puerto Rico boxing event.
