by KYW's Al Novack

A 15-year-old computer hacker in the Downingtown School District has been arrested on charges of computer theft and unlawful taking. The alleged hacker is a 9th grader from Downingtown High School.

The name of student is not being released because of his age, but school officials and police allege the 9th grader hacked into the school districts' computer system.

Police say, he copied personal information and the social security numbers of 41,000 school employees and community residents and 9,000 students.

The 9th grade student has been charged with three felony counts and one misdemeanor. He's back home with his parents and awaits further action in Chester County juvenile court.

Police are stressing that they do not believe the student used any information he retrieved for any malicious purposes.  A second student is also involved; he's cooperating with police and has not been charged.

The incident is still being investigated. A special school district informational meeting to brief parents and the community on police findings in the matter will be conducted on Thursday, May 29th at 7:30pm at the Lionville middle school.
